Mary Harkenrider

Mary Harkenrider currently volunteers with the Karma Garden at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center as a University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener. She also works with youth in the community garden at the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation Restorative Justice Hub on the South Side of Chicago and previously spent many summers working with inmates at the Cook County Jail on a multi-acre farm within its confines. In her past life, among other positions, Mary served as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, U.S. Department of Justice, 1994-1998, and as a Federal prosecutor in Chicago from 1984-1990.
