Through a study funded by a grant from the Atlantic Philanthropies, the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) worked with Diplomas Now schools teachers, staff and students to improve academic and behavioral outcomes. Diplomas Now is a whole-school improvement model and its approach to tiered-interventions and focus on common and consistent expectations align well with the IIRP’s approach. Partnering with the IIRP provided an opportunity to deepen the work being undertaken for improving climate and culture. The Diplomas Now schools that are part of a national randomized control study funded by the investing in innovation (I3) federal grant had been in partnership with Talent Development for 2 to 3 years before implementation. The restorative practices Whole-School Change implementation component of the research study began at the start of the 2014-2015 school year and concluded with the 2015-2016 school year. The study examined the combined impact of the partnership.
